چکیده

VANCOUVER, B.C. – A school-based intervention that focused on medication adherence and reducing exposure to tobacco smoke significantly improved outcomes in innercity children with asthma in a randomized trial. Children receiving the schoolbased intervention had almost 1 additional symptom-free day per 2-week period during the peak winter asthma season of November to February. The number of symptomfree days increased from an average of 8 days for all children at baseline to 11.9 days per 2-week period with the intervention vs. 11.2 days with usual care. “This difference is larger than what has been seen with more intensive and costly interventions,” said Maria Fagnano, M.P.H., of the University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center. The children receiving the intervention were significantly more likely than controls to Screening With CT Linked to Drop in Lung Cancer Death

Background: the aim of this study was to investigate the prognostic value of 18Fluorine-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) parameters in both overall survival and progression-free survival in Stage I-III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, 267 patients who were diagnosed as Stage I-III non-smal...

Progress in Lung Cancer Screening — CT screening and the diagnosis of small lung cancers —

Several case-control studies on lung cancer screening conducted in Japan reported that the current screening method contributes to the reduction of the risk of lung cancer death. However, the effectiveness has not been established, since randomized controlled trials (RTCs) in other countries did not confirm the effectiveness of screening in reducing lung cancer death rates. Because further impr...

Reduced lung-cancer mortality with low-dose computed tomographic screening.

BACKGROUND The aggressive and heterogeneous nature of lung cancer has thwarted efforts to reduce mortality from this cancer through the use of screening. The advent of low-dose helical computed tomography (CT) altered the landscape of lung-cancer screening, with studies indicating that low-dose CT detects many tumors at early stages. The National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) was conducted to det...

A practical approach to radiological evaluation of CT lung cancer screening examinations

Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer-related death in the world. The Dutch-Belgian Randomized Lung Cancer Screening Trial (Dutch acronym: NELSON) was launched to investigate whether screening for lung cancer by low-dose multidetector computed tomography (CT) in high-risk patients will lead to a decrease in lung cancer mortality. The NELSON lung nodule management is based on nodule vol...
